It'sElectric is proud to announce the introduction of two great new conversion kits to our lineup: The PicaMotion and MegaMotion! These are two great new kits that provide the next evolution in electric bicycle conversions: Lighter, stronger, and compatible with a wide range of bicycles.
What are they, and how do they differ from conversion kits like Crystalyte?
PicaMotion and MegaMotion are geared motors! (Crystalyte and many others are direct drive)
Geared motors carry several advantages when compared to direct drive motors:
- Firstly, they are considerably lighter weight. And because a geared motor has the advantage of a consistently high RPM and a tailored gear ratio, it can provide better acceleration and torque output, making them better hill climbers!
- Our geared motors also have a free-wheel effect locked clutch. This freewheeling ability not only makes the motor very efficient, but it will cause much less drag when you are just pedaling along. So the rider can pedal the bike without feeling like they have a flat tire. Bikes equipped with our motors still feel like regular bikes!
- Also, Our geared motors are designed from the ground up to work with sensorless controllers. Many other geared motors are not compatible with sensorless controllers, trying to use one will just cause the motor to shudder and provide poor performance - but why would you want a sensorless controller, then?
Sensorless controllers don’t require a hall-effect wire; this design reduces the number of possible failures.
Explanation:
All hall sensor motors have 3 set of chips (hall effect) built into the motor, the hall effect chip will determine how to start the motor. A common problem when water gets inside the motor is that the chip could potentially be shorted by the water, which will make the motor stop running or start to shudder.
A sensorless controller will avoid this type of issue because it does not require a hall effect chip to start the motor. It sends a current to cause the motor to move and it will detect and automatically figure out how to start the motor. As a result, it is a very reliable product!
Our sensorless controller is easy to attach to a standard bicycle frame tube, it also features a convenient to install design that hugs the frame and looks very clean and sleek.
What features do they come with?
- Our new kits are fully disc brake
compatible, an improvement over many other motors in which disc brake
installation is either painful or impossible!

- They also offer a command console that provides an on / off switch directly at the handlebars, and lets you choose from 3 levels of assistance: Economy mode for distance, a balanced medium power mode, and a high mode for hill climbing and / or maximum assistance. An LED meter also shows the approximate remaining charge on the battery.
