Choosing a Throttle
With the Crystalyte conversion kits there are a variety of different components that you can choose from. With the throttle there are three different types you can pick:
·full twist |

·half twist |

·thumb throttle

The choice of throttle is dependent on preference, but there are a couple of things you should keep in mind when selecting a throttle for your bike. The first of which is safety. Full twist throttles tend to be very familiar to those who ride motorcycles, however it is very easy to accidentaly turn the throttle. The bike needs to be turned off immediatley when not in use, to prevent it from riding away on you or others when walking the bike or leaning it against a wall or floor. This is why we generally don't recommend full twist throttles for most customers.
Your selection should also depend on the type of shifters you have on your bicycle. Different types of shifters require different types of hand motions to use, so it is best not to conflict the throttle motion with the shifting motion.
Grip Shift

If there is a grip shifting mechanism it would be recommended to use a thumb throttle. The thumb throttle is the only option that does not require a twisting motion of the hand, so by using a thumb throttle full control of both the shifters and motor is possible. If a twist throttle was installed with a grip shift it would be difficult to both twist the shifters and the throttle simultaneously.
Rapid Fire

If your bicycle has a rapid fire type shifter then the twist throttles are a good choice. By using a twist type throttle with rapid fire shifters the thumb is free to be use to shift without having to release the throttle. If a thumb throttle was used in this case the throttle would have to be released in order to use the shifter. It is possible to use a thumb throttle with the rapid fire shifters, but it may be difficult to use and the motion of the shifters might conflict with the throttle so this configuration is not recommended.
Left Hand Throttles
Left handed throttles are not just for left handed people. In fact, many right handed cyclists prefer the left handed throttle because it doesn't interfere with using their right hand shifters (to change the rear derailer and cogset). It is extremely rare for people to make frequent changes with their left hand shifter while using the electric motor. Left handed throttles make for easier shifting of your rear gears.
